Samsung Set to Release Android 14-Based One UI 6 Update for Older Galaxy Foldable Devices, Reports Suggest

In an earlier disclosed rollout schedule, Samsung had outlined plans for the deployment of the Android 14-based One UI 6 update to Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 devices in certain regions by November 20, with a similar update slated for the older foldable models, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, by November 30. However, recent reports indicate an expedited release, as users of these older models have purportedly begun receiving the anticipated One UI 6 update. Moreover, emerging reports suggest that the company is currently in the testing phase for a subsequent iteration, tentatively labeled as the One UI 6.1 update.

The update introduces multiple new functional and design enhancements to Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 users. These foldable smartphones get the Quick Panel layout, a new design for notifications, new emoji styling, and a new media player widget with a waveform animation, one of the reports notes.

The One UI 6 update marks the second major OS upgrade in a series of four confirmed updates designated for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Anticipated alongside this is the forthcoming One UI 6.1 update, speculated to coincide with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, purportedly scheduled for January 17, 2024, as per prior reports.

Initially released with Android 12-based OneUI 4.1.1, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 debuted on this firmware, while their predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, launched running Android 11 with One UI layered atop the operating system.
