SpaceX introduces the portable Starlink Mini for $599

SpaceX has introduced the Starlink Mini, a more compact version of its satellite internet system designed to be portable and fit inside a backpack. This new offering is targeted at providing flexible internet access especially in regions where traditional connectivity options are limited or unavailable.

Early Starlink customers were recently given the opportunity to purchase the Starlink Mini kit for $599, which is $100 more than the standard Starlink kit. In addition to this upfront cost, customers also have the option to add the Mini Roam service to their existing service plan for an extra $30 per month. However, the Mini Roam service comes with a data cap of 50 gigabytes per month.

For residential customers already using Starlink, opting for the Starlink Mini kit and the additional Mini Roam service would result in a total monthly cost of $150. SpaceX indicated in the invitation to customers that it aims to eventually lower the price of the Starlink Mini kit. Currently, there is no standalone Mini Roam plan available; it is only offered as an add-on to existing service plans.

The invitation emphasized SpaceX’s commitment to expanding access to affordable internet globally, particularly in underserved areas where connectivity has been a challenge. However, due to the additional demand on the satellite network posed by the Starlink Mini, the company is initially offering a limited number of these kits at the $599 price point.

This move underscores SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to make satellite-based internet solutions more accessible and versatile, catering to diverse needs and environments worldwide.
