Truecaller introduces a web client for its Android user base
Truecaller has expanded its reach by launching a web version of its popular caller ID application, offering Android users a range of features on their desktops. This new offering, called Truecaller for Web, brings SMS and chat mirroring, call notifications, and number search functionality to the desktop environment. While initially available for Android users globally, Truecaller plans to extend support to iOS in the future.
To access Truecaller for Web, Android users simply need to link their devices to the web client on a PC or Mac using a QR code. Currently, the platform limits active web sessions to one per user and automatically signs out users after 30 days of inactivity. Users also have the option to manually de-link a browser from their settings, similar to the linking process of messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram.
While Truecaller’s SMS and chat-mirroring feature arrives relatively late compared to offerings like Microsoft’s Phone Link, it still provides convenience to users for responding to texts and accessing OTPs quickly. Additionally, the web client allows users to look up phone numbers without rate limits, enhancing the user experience.
With over 80 million users receiving SMS pop-up summary notifications daily, Truecaller continues to focus on AI-powered features. Recent updates include the “Max” feature for Android, which blocks calls from unapproved contacts or detected spam, and the introduction of call recording and AI-powered transcription in India, following its successful launch in the U.S. last year. Truecaller’s expansion into web-based functionality reflects its commitment to enhancing user engagement and convenience across platforms.
