Google introduces Imagen 2, a video clip generator.

It’s true that Google has faced challenges with image-generating AI in the past, particularly with the image generator integrated into Gemini, its AI-powered chatbot. In February, it was discovered that this generator was producing offensive and inaccurate images, such as racially diverse Nazis, due to random injections of gender and racial diversity into prompts about people. In response, Google swiftly removed the generator from Gemini and pledged to improve it before reintroducing it.

While we await the return of the revamped image generator, Google is launching a new image-generating tool called Imagen 2 within its Vertex AI developer platform. However, unlike Gemini’s generator, Imagen 2 is geared more towards enterprise use cases. This announcement was made at Google’s annual Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas.

It’s evident that Google is taking steps to address the issues encountered with its previous image-generating AI, and the launch of Imagen 2 suggests a continued commitment to advancing AI capabilities while ensuring accuracy, reliability, and sensitivity to ethical considerations, especially in enterprise contexts.

Imagen 2, introduced as a family of models, represents a significant advancement in image generation capabilities, building on the foundation laid out during its preview at Google’s I/O conference in May 2023 and officially launched in December of the same year. This tool enables users to create and edit images based on textual prompts, similar to the functionality offered by OpenAI’s DALL-E and Midjourney.

One distinguishing feature of Imagen 2, particularly appealing to businesses, is its ability to render text, emblems, and logos in multiple languages. Moreover, Imagen 2 offers the flexibility to overlay these elements onto existing images, facilitating tasks such as creating branded materials like business cards, apparel designs, and product images.

By leveraging Imagen 2’s capabilities, businesses can streamline their design workflows, personalize marketing materials for diverse audiences, and enhance brand visibility across various platforms and regions. The integration of multilingual support and the option to overlay text and graphics onto images further expands the utility of Imagen 2, making it a valuable asset for enterprises seeking innovative solutions for visual content creation and customization.
