LiveCaller has recently been introduced as a real-time caller identification app tailored for iPhone users, positioning itself as a free alternative to popular apps like Truecaller and Hiya. Leveraging Apple’s latest Live Caller ID Lookup framework, which debuted with the iOS 18.2 update in December 2024, LiveCaller displays detailed information about incoming calls directly on the call screen. This functionality not only enhances user experience but also helps protect users from unwanted spam calls, robocalls, telemarketers, and potential fraud calls—all without charging a fee. A notable difference from many competitors is that LiveCaller does not request access to users’ contacts or require them to create an account, emphasizing user privacy and convenience.
The app was developed by Sync.ME, a company known for its expertise in caller identification technologies. LiveCaller allows users to identify unknown callers in real-time by tapping into a database with over four billion phone numbers. Currently supporting 28 languages, the app is fully compatible with devices running iOS 18.2 or later, thanks to Apple’s innovative Live Caller ID Lookup framework. This new framework ensures that caller ID functionality can operate seamlessly without the app needing to run in the background or request intrusive permissions.
Apple’s Live Caller ID Lookup framework brings significant privacy and security improvements for users. It enables caller ID apps to identify unknown calls while keeping user data secure. When a call arrives on an iPhone running iOS 18 or newer, LiveCaller accesses the caller’s number, encrypts it immediately, and performs a lookup securely. Sync.ME assures that this process is protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring that no call data is stored or collected, thereby maintaining user confidentiality and peace of mind.
Spam and scam calls continue to be a growing problem worldwide, and many caller ID apps aim to combat this issue. In India alone, government reports indicate that financial fraud losses amounted to over Rs. 177 crore in 2024—more than double the losses recorded the previous year. Tools like LiveCaller not only help users avoid nuisance calls but also play an important role in protecting people from financial scams and fraud attempts. By offering a free, privacy-respecting alternative on the latest iOS platform, LiveCaller seeks to empower iPhone users with greater control over their incoming calls.
