Spider-Man 2″ New Game Plus Update Delayed to Early 2024, Bringing Exciting Features like Mission Replay and Customization Options
Spider-Man 2″ New Game Plus Update Faces Delay to Early 2024 With an Array of Additional Features.Insomniac Games, the developer behind the highly anticipated “Spider-Man 2,” recently announced a delay in the release of the game’s big post-launch update, now scheduled for early 2024.
Originally planned to introduce a New Game+ mode, allowing players to revisit the game with enhanced abilities and gear, the update has been expanded to include a mission replay option. This addition responds to player feedback, providing an opportunity to relive memorable boss fights and complete side missions for achievements.
In a tweet, Insomniac Games acknowledged the excitement among players for features like New Game+ and Audio Descriptions and highlighted the team’s dedication to ensuring the quality of these additions. The delay is attributed to the need for additional testing to meet the high standards set by the developers.
The upcoming update also promises a more dynamic gaming experience by allowing players to change the time of day within the virtual city, enhancing the web-swinging adventure. Additionally, players will have the freedom to customize the colors of symbiote tendrils, providing a personalized touch to the iconic character’s abilities.
One notable aspect of the customization includes adjusting the colors of symbiote tendrils when using symbiote powers. By default, these tendrils are black, but players will soon have the option to tailor them to their preference. Furthermore, when using other costumes, the symbiote Peter Parker’s webbing will now retain the color white instead of conforming to the suit’s theme.Insomniac Games has more exciting features planned for the update, and further details will be shared in due course as the team continues to work on enhancing the overall gaming experience for Spider-Man 2 enthusiasts.
Earlier this week, the studio fell victim to a cybersecurity attack — hacked by a ransomware group that is looking to auction the ‘exclusive’ data at a starting bid of $2 million or 50 bitcoin. Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) confirmed the original report, adding that the situation is being investigated and that no other divisions have been affected by the security breach.
Rhysida is the hacking group claiming credit for the attack and as proof, published a bunch of Insomniac staff emails, some official documents of the employees, and what appears to be screenshots of the upcoming Wolverine game. A seven-day deadline has been self-imposed by the group, with the implication that the data will be released into the wild if they don’t receive an undisclosed payment on time. Video game companies are more frequently being targeted by such attacks, with the most notorious one being the Rockstar Games leak from last year, causing over 90 in-development GTA VI clips to leak online.
Both of Insomniac’s Marvel-centric games, Spider-Man and Wolverine, are set within the same universe — Earth-1048 — so there’s always a possibility of a cameo appearance from either lead character. Currently, there is no release window for the Wolverine game and the ending of Spider-Man 2 was clearly pointing towards a follow-up — whether that turns out to be a sequel or an expansion remains to be seen. Spider-Man 2 was also nominated in seven categories at The Game Awards 2023, including Game of the Year, but didn’t win a single trophy.Spider-Man 2 is out now, only on the PS5.
