Apple Embarks on Official Development Journey for MacBook Pro Featuring M4 Chip: Gurman

Apple’s M4 chip rumored to share similarities with the anticipated A18 chip speculated for the iPhone 16 series

Apple is reportedly delving into the development of a new MacBook Pro model equipped with a fourth-generation Apple Silicon processor. Last year marked the debut of Mac computers featuring the M3 chip, representing Apple’s initial foray into processors built on its 3nm technology. This same technology was utilized in producing the A17 Pro chip, which powers the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This year, Apple’s forthcoming Mac models, including the speculated MacBook Pro, are anticipated to run on the next-generation M4 chip.

According to insights shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has initiated work on its upcoming MacBook Pro model, set to succeed the M3-powered 2023 MacBook Pro. Responding to a user query in the Q&A section of his Power On newsletter, Gurman hinted at the possibility of acquiring an M4 MacBook Pro, noting that the device has just commenced formal development.

While specific details regarding Apple’s M4 chip remain scarce, industry observers expect the processor to bear resemblance to the rumored A18 Pro chip slated to power the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple’s current flagship iPhone models, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, are equipped with the 3nm A17 Pro chip. Meanwhile, the latest iterations of Apple’s iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro feature the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips, respectively.
