The eagerly awaited Apple Vision Pro is now available for preorders in the US, signaling the imminent launch of Apple’s inaugural mixed reality headset on February 2. This spatial computing device features two Micro-OLED panels boasting a total of 23 million pixels and a remarkable 100Hz refresh rate. Powered by Apple’s M2 processor and a novel R1 chip dedicated to processing data from the headset’s various sensors, the Apple Vision Pro stands as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation. Noteworthy features include iris-based biometric authentication and a battery life of up to two hours.

Apple Vision Pro price, availability

In terms of pricing and availability, the base model of the Apple Vision Pro, offering 256GB of storage, starts at $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2.9 lakh). Alternatively, customers can opt for the 512GB and 1TB storage options, priced at $3,699 (approximately Rs. 3.07 lakh) and $3,899 (approximately Rs. 3.24 lakh), respectively. The official sales launch is scheduled for February 2, with Apple making the headset available through its stores in the US.

For users requiring prescription or reading spectacles, Apple offers Zeiss optical inserts, with Readers inserts priced at $99 (approximately Rs. 8,200) and Prescription inserts at $149 (approximately Rs. 12,400).

In terms of protection plans, customers can purchase AppleCare+ for the Vision Pro at $499 (approximately Rs. 41,500), covering accidental damage repairs with a $299 (approximately Rs. 24,900) service fee. Notably, repairs without AppleCare+ could incur costs as high as $2,399 (approximately Rs. 2 lakh), as indicated on the company’s website.

Highlighting the device’s specifications, the Apple Vision Pro is driven by the M2 chip paired with a secondary R1 chip, both operating with a 12ms response time and 256GB/s bandwidth. The dual Micro-OLED displays cover 92 percent of the DCI:P3 color gamut, delivering an impressive 23 million pixels and supporting refresh rates of 90Hz, 96Hz, and 100Hz. The launch of the Apple Vision Pro marks a significant stride in Apple’s venture into the realm of mixed reality.

Apple has equipped the Vision Pro headset with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, along with AirPlay support at up to 1080p. The device has six microphones, two primary cameras, six secondary (tracking) cameras, four cameras for eye tracking, a LiDAR scanner, a TrueDepth camera, along with six other sensors.

The Vision Pro is powered by an external battery pack that is connected via a cable. The battery is claimed to power the headset for up to two hours, and the device actually ships with a charger in the box, unlike many other Apple products, including the iPhone. Depending on your configuration, the Vision Pro can weigh up to 650g and the battery pack weighs 353g, according to the company.
