Apple’s long-anticipated foldable iPhone is beginning to take shape, with recent leaks providing more clarity on its design and features. The device is expected to follow a book-style foldable design, which has caused quite a stir in the tech community after months of speculation. Early rumors about Apple’s foldable iPhone were mixed, with some analysts predicting a clamshell-style device while others speculated a more traditional design. However, new reports suggest that Apple has firmly chosen a book-style format for its first foray into foldables. This new leak also reveals that the iPhone will feature a near crease-free display, with Samsung being the sole supplier for this advanced screen technology.
In terms of its camera design, Apple is opting for a hole-punch camera, marking a departure from its traditional Face ID technology. Face ID, which has become a staple in Apple’s iPhone lineup since the iPhone X, will not be featured in this foldable model. Instead, the foldable iPhone will include a fingerprint-based biometric authentication system, similar to the one found in Apple’s budget-friendly iPad models. This decision signals that Apple may be prioritizing a more practical and cost-effective solution for its foldable device, instead of continuing with the facial recognition system that’s typically associated with its flagship phones.
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has provided additional details, confirming that the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch display, which will be crease-free. The cover display, when folded, will be 5.5 inches in size. Kuo has also speculated that the foldable iPhone will be priced between $2,000 and $2,500 and is expected to enter production by the fourth quarter of 2026. Furthermore, the larger internal display will have a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920 pixels, while the cover display will boast a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels, which puts it on par with some of the leading foldable devices from Samsung and Vivo.
Apple is expected to borrow several technologies from its other upcoming devices, including the iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to be the company’s slimmest iPhone yet, measuring just 5.5mm thick. Given that Apple still utilizes Touch ID on the power buttons of its Magic Keyboard and iPad models, it is likely that a similar implementation will be used for the foldable iPhone. The display will also feature a 4:3 aspect ratio, a common characteristic of many Android-powered foldable phones today.
