Encountering issues with Google Pay? Here are three ways to troubleshoot and resolve the issues
Experiencing issues with Google Pay payments? Here are some top fixes to resolve the problem.
Google Pay, powered by UPI, is one of the most prominent payment platforms in India, allowing users to quickly make payments to any UPI ID by either scanning the QR code or using a phone number or UPI ID linked to a bank account. Like any digital service, Google Pay also experiences outages, and sometimes payments do not go through despite money being debited from the bank account.
If you have ever encountered such a situation, here is how you can easily fix payment issues on Google Pay:
Make sure you have an active internet connection.
If you are unable to scan the QR code or authorise payment on Google Pay, there is a high probability that your smartphone might not have an active internet connection. While one can make payments from Google Pay using a mobile or Wi-Fi network, ensure that you have an uninterrupted data connection.
Encountering ‘Can’t reach bank server’ error on Google Pay.
This is the most common error faced by Google Pay users. Despite having an active internet connection, you might be unable to make a payment due to a server error at the bank’s end. In this scenario, you can either use other UPI payment apps such as PhonePe or Paytm or if you have a secondary bank account, you can transfer funds using the same.
You can also add a supported credit/debit card to your Google Pay account, enabling one-tap payment that doesn’t require an active internet connection.

Debited but not yet credited.
This issue isn’t as common as the other two, but it does happen occasionally. Sometimes, money gets debited from the user’s account but does not reach the recipient. In most cases, Google Pay automatically refunds the money to the original bank account within a few seconds. Alternatively, it might take up to 48 hours to receive the refund in other cases.
If you haven’t received the refund even after 48 hours, you need to raise a ticket. This can be done within the Google Pay app.
To raise a ticket related to a payment issue on Google Pay, go to Transaction History > Select the transaction > Having Issues > Payment Issue > and follow the on-screen instructions. A specialist will investigate the issue and assist you in resolving it.
You can also reach out to Google Pay customer care by dialling 1800-419-0157, a toll-free number for all the phone-in assistance regarding payment-related issues on Google Pay.

Transferring money to the wrong account.
In such a situation, your options are limited to requesting the person to send the payment back. Neither Google nor your bank is likely to take responsibility, as it is considered a user error. Always double-check the name and phone number before initiating a payment on Google Pay, as the transactions are irreversible.
