Google Introduces Swipe Feature for Fashion Recommendations, Enhancing User Experience
Google has introduced an update aimed at enhancing personalized shopping experiences for users, making it easier to find tailored product recommendations. This feature enables users to rate different products, particularly in the apparel, shoes, and accessories categories, to receive personalized style recommendations.
When users search for items like “men’s polo shirts” on Google, they will now encounter a dedicated section labeled “style recommendations.” Within this section, users can provide ratings for various products using a thumbs-up or thumbs-down gesture, or by employing a Tinder-like swipe action. If uncertain about a particular item, users have the option to skip it. Following the rating process, Google will generate personalized shopping results based on the user’s preferences.
This update reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to compete with industry players such as Amazon and Walmart, both of which have introduced AI-powered features to enhance their shopping platforms and offer personalized recommendations to users.
Google’s new feature offers users the option to rate more items and access additional results if they haven’t found what they’re looking for initially. By rating items, users can provide feedback that Google will use to generate personalized recommendations for future searches. The platform will remember these preferences, ensuring that users receive tailored style recommendations based on their past interactions.
If users accidentally rate a product positively or wish to opt out of personalized shopping results entirely, they can manage their preferences by accessing the personalization options within the “About this result” panel, accessible via the three-dot menu next to a result.
This new feature is currently rolling out to all U.S. shoppers using mobile browsers and the Google app. There is no information yet on whether or when Google plans to expand the feature to additional countries.
Google emphasizes the significance of shopping on its platform, revealing that users conduct over a billion shopping searches daily and encounter more than 45 billion products in their search results. Additionally, Google updates over two billion listings every hour to provide users with the latest pricing, availability, and shipping information.
