IO River lets you mix and match CDNs without the hassle

IO River, emerging from stealth mode with a $5.4 million seed funding round led by S Capital, aims to address the evolving landscape of content delivery networks (CDNs). Traditionally focused on efficiently delivering static files, modern CDNs now offer a plethora of additional services such as edge compute and security tools. This expansion has made it increasingly complex for users to switch between CDNs and select the optimal option for their needs.

IO River seeks to simplify this process by creating a layer atop existing CDNs, enabling seamless transitions between them without being confined to the basic features common across all providers. Founded by industry veterans Edward Tsinovoi (CEO) and Michael Hakimi (CTO), who previously collaborated for over a decade, including at Akamai’s Tel Aviv office, IO River emerged in late 2022 and participated in the Intel Ignite accelerator program.

Edward Tsinovoi emphasized the necessity for online service companies to break free from dependence on a single edge or CDN vendor, citing its adverse effects on resiliency, performance, and cost efficiency. While some enterprises have transitioned to a multi-CDN, multi-edge platforms architecture, managing multiple vendors can be complex and costly. IO River aims to democratize this approach by offering a solution that simplifies the adoption and maintenance of such architecture.

IO River’s platform provides essential services for multi-CDN deployment, including traffic splitting to optimize uptime, performance, and cost, along with a centralized management console. Leveraging native APIs, IO River seamlessly integrates with CDNs to facilitate common functionalities like URL redirection. This approach streamlines operations and empowers companies to leverage the benefits of a multi-vendor ecosystem without the associated complexities.
