Service Restored: X Resumes Access Following Reports of App and Website Outages [Updated]

The microblogging platform, formerly recognized as Twitter and now operating under the name X, seems to have resumed normal operations after encountering a service disruption that left thousands of users unable to access it on Thursday. Reports began surfacing around 11 am, with users highlighting the service’s inaccessibility on a downtime tracking website. Concurrently, numerous individuals mentioned their inability to view posts on the platform. Notably, Gadgets 360 employees encountered similar issues, facing an inability to view any posts while accessing X via both the web interface and mobile applications.

Update: X appears to be functioning normally again, with posts displaying on all feeds at around 12:10pm, nearly an hour after users reported that the service was inaccessible.

Downtime tracking service Downdetector had over 67,000 reports from users who said that X was not accessible on Thursday, while the Indian version of the website had over 4,800 reports with the same complaint. It is worth noting that at the time of publishing, Twitter’s API Status page shows “All Systems Operational”.

Some parts of X appear to be working normally on the site, such as the Trending topics section that shows hashtags that are currently trending in the same region as the user. However, clicking on these trending topics does not show any posts, and the feed appears empty, just like the main timeline that loads when you log in to X.

Visiting the Lists section also displays the names of various lists but clicking on them displays the message ” Waiting for posts. Posts from people in this List will show up here.” — the site is currently unable to display posts from any users, including the platform’s owner, Elon Musk.

Meanwhile, amid the disruption, Spaces, the interactive audio feature on the platform, maintained its functionality without interruption. A Gadgets 360 staff member successfully participated in a discussion concerning the service’s unavailability using Spaces. Notably, Spaces hosts retained the ability to manage speakers, indicating an unaffected performance of this feature.

Furthermore, direct messages remained visible and operational on the platform, seemingly unaffected by the service disruption. While notifications for users’ posts continued to appear normally, users encountered a hurdle when attempting to view the tweets by clicking on these notifications at the time of this story’s publication.
