Threads announces plans to make its API widely accessible by June
Threads, a social network owned by Meta, has announced that it will be making its API available to developers by June. This move aims to empower creators, developers, and brands to manage their Threads presence more effectively and share content seamlessly across various third-party applications.
According to engineer Jesse Chen, the API has been under development for the past few months and currently supports features such as user authentication, thread publication, and content fetching. Threads has already partnered with several social tools like Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Social News Desk, Hootsuite, and Techmeme, with plans to expand its partnerships in the future.
Chen also mentioned that Threads is working on adding more capabilities to the API, particularly in the areas of moderation and insights gathering. This will enable developers to create richer and more engaging experiences for Threads users.
The decision to open up its API follows a trend in the social media industry, with platforms like Instagram also working on similar initiatives to enable third-party experiences. While the full extent of capabilities offered by the Threads API is still unclear, it represents a step towards fostering a more vibrant third-party app ecosystem within the social networking space.
