X Bolsters Safety Team Amid Spam Crackdown
Following recent leadership appointments, X has strengthened its safety team with Kylie McRoberts as Head of Safety and Yale Cohen as Head of Brand Safety and Advertiser Solutions. The move comes as part of X’s proactive initiative to combat spam on its platform, a priority highlighted by CEO Elon Musk since November 2022.
Despite Musk’s emphasis on addressing spam, the task has proven challenging, compounded by understaffing in X’s Trust & Safety team and vacancies in key safety roles. Furthermore, advancements in AI have complicated efforts to curb spam activities.
Earlier attempts to mitigate spam, such as requiring users to pay for Verification, have not been entirely effective, as evidenced by the presence of verified bots engaging in spam-like behavior. Moreover, reports indicate a rise in spam disseminating adult content through explicit replies and bio links.
The appointment of McRoberts and Cohen signals X’s commitment to enhancing safety measures and safeguarding its platform against spam and other malicious activities.
