Rumor: Apple Developing 20.3-Inch Foldable MacBook, Production Anticipated by 2027

Foldable iPhone and iPad Rumors Circulate Amidst Reports of Apple’s Foldable MacBook Development

Reports have been circulating regarding Apple’s venture into the foldable device realm, encompassing speculations about a clamshell foldable iPhone, a foldable iPad, and an unspecified foldable gadget featuring a larger display. However, fresh insights hint that the tech giant’s inaugural foray into foldable technology might materialize in the form of a MacBook. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo divulged that Apple is actively engaged in developing a foldable MacBook, marking a significant shift in its product lineup. This revelation follows recent murmurs suggesting Apple had ceased development on its foldable smartphone project just a month prior.

According to Kuo’s post on X (formerly Twitter), the foldable MacBook stands as Apple’s sole foldable product with a discernible development trajectory at present. This assertion potentially relegates the purported foldable iPhone and iPad to a later timeline.

Kuo further elaborated that the anticipated foldable Mac would flaunt a spacious 20.3-inch display, potentially reshaping the landscape of portable computing. Moreover, industry analysts anticipate this innovative device to commence mass production by the year 2027, indicating a long-term strategic vision within Apple’s roadmap.

Kuo’s statement shed light on the prevailing inquiries surrounding Apple’s plans for mass-producing foldable iPhone or iPad models by 2025 or 2026. However, his latest findings underscore that Apple’s immediate focus lies squarely on the development and subsequent production of the 20.3-inch foldable MacBook. This strategic pivot underscores Apple’s commitment to exploring novel form factors and pushing the boundaries of technological innovation within the consumer electronics space.

Apple is said to be working on several foldable devices, with a clamshell foldable iPhone, a foldable iPad and an unspecified foldable product with a larger display rumoured to be in the works. New information, however, suggests that the company’s first foldable could be a MacBook. A reliable Apple analyst has claimed that the Cupertino, California-based company is working on a foldable MacBook. The update comes after Apple was said to have halted development on its foldable phone last month.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, TF Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that a MacBook was Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule at the moment. If true, this would put the rumoured foldable iPhone and a foldable iPad further down the pipeline. According to Kuo, the foldable Mac would sport a 20.3-inch screen and would likely enter mass production in 2027.

“Recently, I’ve received many inquiries about whether Apple plans to mass-produce the foldable iPhone or iPad in 2025 or 2026,” Kuo said in his post. “My latest survey indicates that currently, Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to enter mass production in 2027.”
