OpenStack Enhances Support for AI Workloads
OpenStack, the open-source project for managing private clouds on-premises, continues its active development with the launch of version 29, named ‘Caracal.’ Catering to the needs of large enterprise users, this release focuses on facilitating the hosting of AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.

As Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted, we stand at the brink of a massive investment surge, with trillions of dollars pouring into data center infrastructure. While much of this investment originates from large hyperscalers, a significant portion will also fuel private deployments, necessitating robust software solutions to manage these data centers effectively.
In this landscape, OpenStack emerges as a compelling option, offering a comprehensive alternative to VMware’s offerings. With VMware users expressing dissatisfaction over its sale to Broadcom and subsequent licensing changes, the demand for viable alternatives has intensified. Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenInfra Foundation, noted, “With the Broadcom acquisition of VMware and some of the licensing changes they’ve made, we’ve had a lot of companies coming to us and taking another look at OpenStack.”
