Qualcomm Set to Unveil Snapdragon X Series Chipsets This September

New Snapdragon X Series Chipsets Expected at IFA 2024 in Berlin

Qualcomm might be preparing to announce its latest Snapdragon X series chipsets as early as next month, according to recent reports. The chipmaker first introduced its Snapdragon X series processors in April, which have since become the sole chipset compatible with the Copilot+ PC specifications. This is largely due to the Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) within the chip, which boasts an impressive capability of performing 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). Microsoft requires a minimum of 40 TOPS for laptops to be classified as Copilot+ PCs, making Qualcomm’s current offerings the only ones meeting this standard. The specifics of whether the new X series chips will surpass the performance of existing models remain uncertain.

The anticipation surrounding the Snapdragon X series has been building, especially following Qualcomm’s recent Snapdragon India event. During the event, the company not only highlighted the capabilities of its X series chipsets but also introduced the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform with 5G capabilities. Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute and Gaming at Qualcomm, hinted at the potential announcement of additional X series chipsets in September.

Reports suggest that the upcoming announcement might align with the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2024 event in Berlin, a prominent consumer electronics trade show. This speculation is supported by insights from FoneArena, which indicate that Qualcomm could unveil new variants of its Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite chips at the event. While the introduction of entirely new chip models is considered unlikely, the focus might be on revealing new stock-keeping units (SKUs) of the existing processors.

The timing of this potential announcement could be strategically significant for Qualcomm, positioning the company to capitalize on the attention generated by IFA 2024. As the tech world gathers in Berlin for the event, Qualcomm’s reveal could further solidify its position in the high-performance chipset market and address evolving consumer and industry demands.

In addition to the potential new chip variants, Qualcomm’s move could also signify advancements in processing power and efficiency. The company’s track record with the Snapdragon X series suggests a continued focus on pushing the boundaries of what their chipsets can achieve, particularly in high-performance and AI-driven applications.

Overall, the forthcoming announcement holds the promise of significant updates and enhancements to Qualcomm’s chipset lineup, potentially setting new benchmarks in the industry. As the tech community awaits further details, the anticipation for Qualcomm’s next steps remains high, with September poised to be a pivotal month for the company and its stakeholders.
