iPhone SE 4 Leaks Hint at Enhanced Battery Capacity, New Action Button, and USB Type-C Port
The highly-anticipated iPhone SE 4 is gearing up to succeed its predecessor, the iPhone SE (2022), as Apple’s flagship budget-friendly smartphone. Departing from the historical trend of maintaining the iPhone 8 chassis for “SE” models, the fourth iteration is set to introduce a more contemporary design. In a recent development, reports from MacRumors, citing undisclosed sources, shed light on a potential game-changer for the iPhone SE 4— a notably larger battery.
According to the sources, Apple is currently in the testing phase of a battery for the upcoming iPhone SE 4, internally referred to as D59. Remarkably, this battery is said to mirror the one featured in the iPhone 14, a flagship model launched by Apple in the previous year. The iPhone 14 lineup comprised the standard iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, alongside the more budget-friendly iPhone SE (2022).
The noteworthy aspect of this potential upgrade lies in the battery’s capacity. Allegedly, Apple is contemplating a shift to a battery size similar to the one powering the iPhone 14, a departure from the smaller batteries characteristic of previous SE models. For context, the iPhone 14 boasts a formidable 3,279mAh battery, a significant leap from the 2,108mAh battery housed in the iPhone SE (2022). It’s important to note that Apple traditionally refrains from publicly disclosing the battery capacities of its handsets, making these leaks and reports all the more intriguing for tech enthusiasts.
Digging deeper into the technical details, reports indicate that Apple’s ongoing testing includes prototypes of the iPhone SE 4 featuring the A2863 battery — the same battery found in the iPhone 14. This alignment in battery specifications raises the possibility that the iPhone SE 4 could offer a battery life akin to Apple’s flagship models, catering to users who value both budget-conscious choices and extended battery performance.
As Apple continues to push boundaries in the ever-evolving smartphone landscape, the iPhone SE 4 emerges as a potential bridge between affordability and performance. If these speculations hold true, the iPhone SE 4 could be poised to carve a niche for itself, offering users a compelling combination of modern design, budget-friendly pricing, and impressive battery longevity. As the tech community eagerly awaits official announcements from Apple, the iPhone SE 4 stands as an intriguing prospect in the lineup of upcoming smartphones.
The battery isn’t the only upgrade expected to arrive on the iPhone SE 4 — the handset will also reportedly feature the same Action button that arrived on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max this year. A recent report suggests that Apple will equip all iPhone 16 models next year with the programmable button next year, in place of the mute switch.
Another hardware change expected to come to the iPhone SE 4 is the addition of a USB Type-C port. Apple’s next smartphone is expected to feature the modern USB connector in compliance with the EU’s common charger regulations — the iPhone 15 series became the first smartphones from the company to feature a USB Type-C port.
