Live Activities Support on Google Maps Appears to Be Rolling Out to Users in Multiple Regions, Including India.
Google Maps is gradually rolling out support for Live Activities on iOS, enhancing the user experience by providing real-time travel information directly on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island of supported iPhone models. This feature allows users to stay updated with key navigation details at a glance, without needing to unlock their devices or open the app. Although Google had previously confirmed that Live Activities would be coming to the iOS version of its navigation app, the rollout has been slow, and many users are still waiting to receive this functionality.
Apple introduced Live Activities with iOS 16 in 2022, offering developers the ability to display ongoing app information in a more dynamic and accessible manner. This feature has been embraced by various third-party applications, allowing users to monitor tasks such as delivery progress, sports scores, and now, navigation, all from the convenience of their Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. The introduction of this feature in Google Maps marks a significant enhancement for iOS users who rely on the app for navigation.
According to a report by 9to5Google, several iOS users have reported gaining access to Live Activities on Google Maps over the past two months. These users have shared screenshots indicating that the feature is available in multiple regions, including India, and in various languages. This suggests that Google is expanding the availability of Live Activities in a phased manner, gradually bringing the feature to more users around the world.
Once the Live Activities feature is enabled on Google Maps for iOS, users will be able to see real-time navigation updates directly on their Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. The feature displays the next direction, a horizontal progress bar that tracks the journey, and the estimated time of arrival (ETA) at the destination. This allows for a more seamless navigation experience, as users can quickly glance at their iPhone to stay informed about their route without needing to interact with the device.
The gradual rollout of Live Activities on Google Maps underscores the ongoing efforts by Google to enhance its app’s functionality on iOS, keeping pace with the latest features offered by Apple’s operating system. While the rollout has been slow, the expanding availability of this feature indicates that Google is working to ensure a smooth and stable experience for its users across different regions and languages.
As more users gain access to Live Activities on Google Maps, the feature is expected to become an integral part of the navigation experience for iPhone users. The convenience of having real-time travel information available at a glance could make Google Maps even more indispensable for iOS users, particularly those who frequently rely on the app for daily commuting or travel.
