Instagram Introduces Watch History Feature to Replay Previously Viewed Reels

Instagram is introducing a long-awaited Watch History feature for Reels, allowing users to easily revisit content they have previously viewed. The functionality is designed to resemble YouTube’s Watch History, giving users the ability to track and manage the Reels they have consumed over time. With this update, Instagram users can filter content by date or date range, and even search for Reels shared by specific accounts, making it simpler to find favorite or important videos.

The rollout was confirmed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri via a post on Threads, the platform’s microblogging companion. Users can access the feature through their profile settings by navigating to Settings > Your activity > Watch history. The feature will also appear under the How You Use Instagram section, centralizing it alongside other activity-tracking tools.

In addition to basic playback history, Instagram is offering users more control over what they see. By default, the Watch History will display Reels viewed in the past 30 days. Users can browse through three different tabs to locate specific content and have the option to remove individual Reels from their history if they no longer wish to keep a record of them.

This new functionality not only helps users rediscover previously enjoyed content but also provides a more organized way to manage their activity on the app. By giving users the ability to filter and search through their viewing history, Instagram aims to enhance engagement, making it easier to revisit, share, or re-watch Reels without having to scroll endlessly through the feed.
