Samsung and Huawei Already Provide Blood Pressure Monitoring on Smartwatches
Since the release of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 last September, Apple continues to prioritize health monitoring capabilities in its wearables. These devices provide users with comprehensive health insights, including heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep patterns, activity tracking, and even temperature monitoring, directly from their wrists.
In line with this commitment, reports suggest that Apple is preparing to introduce a new blood pressure monitoring feature with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10, offering wearers insights into their blood pressure trends. Notably, competitors like Samsung already offer similar functionality on their Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 5 models.
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman’s insights shared in his weekly newsletter Power On, the anticipated blood pressure monitoring feature is expected to debut with the Apple Watch Series 10. Gurman suggests that all indications point towards this new capability being integrated into the upcoming model set to release in the fall. However, it appears unlikely that current Apple Watch models will receive this feature through a software update, implying that blood pressure monitoring could be a hardware-specific feature unique to the Series 10.
While Apple has remained tight-lipped about specific details regarding the blood pressure monitoring feature, Gurman’s observations align with ongoing trends in wearable health technology. As consumers increasingly prioritize health and wellness, manufacturers are continuously enhancing their devices to offer more comprehensive health monitoring capabilities. With blood pressure being a crucial indicator of cardiovascular health, its inclusion in the Apple Watch Series 10 could further elevate the device’s appeal to health-conscious consumers.
The introduction of blood pressure monitoring on the Apple Watch Series 10 underscores Apple’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to empower users with actionable health insights. By integrating this feature directly into their wearable ecosystem, Apple aims to provide users with a convenient and accessible tool for monitoring and managing their cardiovascular health. As the wearable market continues to evolve, innovations like blood pressure monitoring further position devices like the Apple Watch as indispensable companions for proactive health management.
Apple unveiled the new Watch Series 9 alongside the Watch Ultra 2 in September last year. Like their predecessors, the new set of wearables offer valuable health insights to users directly on their wrists by monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep pattern, movements, temperature and more. Apple is said to bring a new blood pressure monitoring feature to the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10. This feature would allow wearers to understand the trends in blood pressure. Samsung offers a similar feature on the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 5 models.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, in the latest edition of his weekly newsletter Power On, opined that the blood-pressure monitoring feature will be added to the Apple Watch Series 10. “All signs point to the new Apple Watch gaining a blood-pressure checker this fall. But it doesn’t appear that the capability will be coming to current models” he said. This indirectly suggests that the blood pressure monitoring would be a hardware feature and older Apple Watch models will be not able to access it via software update.
