China’s CiDi Accelerates Global Expansion With Autonomous AI Mining Machines

Chinese autonomous mining technology company CiDi is preparing to significantly expand its international presence this year, targeting new deployments of its AI-powered mining equipment across Australia, the Middle East, South America, and Europe as demand for intelligent industrial automation continues to grow.

The Hong Kong-listed company has already deployed partially autonomous excavators in Australia and is planning a broader rollout in the country, while actively pursuing additional contracts in overseas mining markets.

CiDi specializes in autonomous mining solutions that combine artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced vehicle automation to improve operational efficiency, reduce labor requirements, lower fuel consumption, and enhance worker safety in some of the world’s most hazardous industrial environments.

Alongside competitors such as EACON, the company is helping transform mining through fleets of self-driving haul trucks and intelligent heavy equipment capable of operating with minimal human intervention.

Beyond autonomous transportation, CiDi is expanding into robotic mining systems designed for high-risk operations. The company is developing AI-powered explosive handling vehicles and autonomous drilling machines capable of performing highly precise tasks in environments that would otherwise expose workers to significant safety risks.

According to the company’s leadership, the distinction between industrial vehicles and robots is becoming increasingly blurred as heavy machinery incorporates robotic arms, computer vision, autonomous navigation, and intelligent decision-making systems.

Unlike some competitors that directly operate mining fleets, CiDi follows an asset-light business model, providing hardware and software directly to mining companies while partnering with equipment manufacturers for vehicle production. This approach allows the company to scale internationally without investing heavily in manufacturing capacity.

The company’s rapid growth reflects increasing global adoption of mining automation. Following its public listing in late 2025, CiDi more than doubled annual revenue to 884.8 million yuan, with deployments in China significantly outpacing overall industry growth.

China has emerged as a global leader in autonomous mining technologies, with approximately 10% of mining trucks now operating without drivers. CiDi’s worldwide fleet has expanded to more than 1,700 autonomous vehicles across dozens of mines, the majority located in China.

One of the company’s key competitive advantages lies in fleet orchestration. Its software enables a single remote operator to supervise around 100 autonomous trucks simultaneously, while coordinating the movement of hundreds of vehicles across large mining operations through AI-powered scheduling and traffic management systems.

CiDi also plans to introduce autonomous explosive-handling equipment later this year, followed by robotic drilling systems in early 2027. These technologies are expected to be deployed initially in China’s Shanxi and Inner Mongolia mining regions, where safety standards have received increased attention following recent industrial accidents.

As mining companies worldwide face labor shortages, rising operational costs, and stricter workplace safety regulations, autonomous equipment is becoming an increasingly attractive investment. Artificial intelligence, robotics, and electrification are rapidly reshaping the future of heavy industry, turning mining into one of the fastest-growing applications of industrial AI.
