Lucid and Bolt are preparing a European robotaxi partnership that could put 25,000 autonomous vehicles into service in major cities.
Announced on September 17, the plan centers on Lucid’s forthcoming Midsize vehicle platform. The partners expect to use Nvidia’s Hyperion architecture and develop a vehicle platform suited to SAE Level 4 operation within defined conditions and areas.
Bolt intends to own and operate the vehicles. Its autonomous-driving unit will help specify the software, safety systems and passenger experience, while developing fleet operations and relationships with cities.
The companies also plan to work with autonomous-driving specialists and European regulators. The announcement describes a planned rollout rather than an operating fleet.
The agreement forms part of Bolt’s ambition to reach 100,000 autonomous vehicles by 2035. Lucid separately works with Uber and Nuro on robotaxi deployment in the United States.
