Recent leaks from China, however, provide insights into the handset’s build, suggesting that Apple is exploring innovative ways to improve the foldable design, particularly the hinge mechanism.

According to a post on Weibo by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone Fold may use a 3D-printed hinge to reduce the visibility of the crease on its internal display. This approach leverages advanced 3D printing technology to create precise components that can minimize gaps and irregularities when the phone is folded. Apple is already familiar with 3D printing for its products, using it in Apple Watch cases and components like the USB Type-C port on the iPhone Air, which demonstrates the company’s capability to adopt the technology for more complex mechanisms.

The use of a 3D-printed hinge could mark a significant improvement in foldable design, addressing one of the most common criticisms of such devices: the visible crease along the fold.
