Reports Suggest Beta Version of X Android App Contains Passkey Support References

Reportedly, X, the popular social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is poised to introduce passkey support to its Android application, expanding the accessibility of this innovative login method to a wider user base. Initially launched on iOS devices in January, passkeys offer users an alternative means of accessing their accounts without relying on traditional passwords.

The latest developments suggest that X is now in the process of beta testing passkey functionality within its Android app, with references to this feature spotted in the public beta build of the application.

According to findings by AssembleDebug, as reported by The SP Android, support for passkeys has been identified in the code strings of the latest beta release—version 10.32.0-beta—of the X Android app. These code snippets, along with the presence of passkey-related features within the beta app itself, indicate that X is actively exploring the integration of this new login method into its Android platform. This move underscores X’s commitment to enhancing user security and convenience by offering a diverse range of authentication options.

Passkeys represent a significant evolution in online security, providing users with an additional layer of protection beyond conventional methods such as two-factor authentication (2FA) and password reset protection. By leveraging passkeys, X aims to streamline the login process for its Android users while ensuring robust security standards are maintained. With the feature currently undergoing beta testing, it is expected to undergo further refinement and optimization before being rolled out globally to all X users in the coming weeks.

As illustrated by the accompanying screenshot, passkey support within the X Android app promises to offer users a seamless and intuitive login experience, further enhancing the platform’s accessibility and user-friendliness. As X continues to explore innovative ways to safeguard user accounts and streamline the authentication process, the introduction of passkey support represents a significant step forward in the platform’s ongoing efforts to prioritize user security and privacy. Stay tuned for further updates as X prepares to unveil this exciting new feature to its Android user base.

X (formerly known as Twitter) might soon bring passkeys support to its Android app, as per a report. The social media platform introduced passkeys, which is an alternative method to log into user accounts without requiring passwords, on iOS devices in January, and now it might soon be available to Android users as well. The feature is reportedly in beta testing at the moment and was spotted in the public beta build of the app. It is likely to be rolled out globally in the coming weeks.

Spotted by AssembleDebug via The SP Android, the support for passkeys on the Android app of X was seen in a couple of strings of codes in the latest beta release — beta version 10.32.0-beta — as well as in the beta app itself. Passkeys are being introduced in addition to existing security measures such as two-factor authentication (2FA) and password reset protection. It appears within the app as the screenshot shared below.
