Gemini Extensions Exclusively Available to Google Workspace Users
Google has introduced new functionalities to its Gemini app, which are now available on the Pixel 9 series smartphones. These updates include two extensions specifically designed for enhancing the usability of Google Keep and Google Tasks. The new features are accessible exclusively to Google Workspace users, marking a significant step in integrating Gemini with Google’s suite of productivity tools. While these extensions are now active for the latest Pixel models, it remains unclear when they will be extended to older Pixel phones or other Android devices.
The new extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks have been detailed in support pages published by Google. These pages provide guidance on how users can leverage the new functionalities. However, it’s important to note that these extensions are not available to those using the free version of the Gemini app. Accessing these features requires a Google Workspace account in addition to having a Pixel 9 series smartphone.
To utilize the new extensions, users must first sign into the Gemini app with their Google Workspace account credentials. After logging in, they can navigate to the account menu within the app and locate the Extensions page. Here, users will find options for Google Keep and Google Tasks. Activating these extensions is straightforward: users simply need to enter the text field in Gemini, type ‘@’ followed by the extension’s name, and the features will become available.
The introduction of these extensions aims to streamline the integration between Gemini and Google’s productivity applications. By making it easier to access and manage tasks and notes directly through Gemini, Google is enhancing the user experience for those within its Workspace ecosystem. This move aligns with Google’s broader strategy to deepen the integration of its various tools and services, providing users with a more cohesive and efficient workflow.
Despite the current exclusivity to the Pixel 9 series and Google Workspace users, there is potential for these features to be rolled out more broadly in the future. Google’s recent releases, including AI agent Gems and the Imagen 3 image generation model, suggest that the company is actively working on expanding its suite of tools and features.
Overall, the Gemini app’s new extensions for Google Keep and Google Tasks represent a valuable addition for productivity-focused users. As Google continues to develop and refine its applications, these updates highlight the company’s commitment to enhancing its software ecosystem and providing users with advanced functionalities tailored to their needs.
