Rapido Unveils ‘Ownly’ App to Deliver Budget-Friendly Meals Under Rs. 150
Rapido enters food delivery market, taking on Swiggy and Zomato
Rapido has expanded its services in India by launching a new food delivery app called Ownly. The app, introduced on Wednesday, is designed to be a zero-commission platform aimed at offering meals at prices close to what consumers would pay in offline markets. Ownly focuses on affordability, with food items such as rice and eggs priced under Rs. 100. Currently, the app is available only on the Google Play Store and operates in select areas around Bengaluru.
Before the official launch, Rapido conducted closed pilots of Ownly in specific localities to fine-tune operations. The company reportedly engaged with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) and other industry bodies to negotiate favorable terms for onboarding restaurants onto the platform. These collaborations aim to ensure that restaurants can join Ownly without being burdened by excessive fees.
Ownly is structured to offer at least four meals priced at Rs. 150 or less, making it a cost-effective alternative to existing platforms. Rapido claims that the prices on Ownly will be about 15 percent lower than what customers pay on Swiggy and Zomato. The strategy focuses on attracting price-conscious consumers while supporting small and medium-sized restaurants.
In addition to affordable pricing, Ownly introduces transparency in delivery charges. Instead of hidden costs, the app will charge restaurants a flat delivery fee, ensuring that the pricing structure is straightforward for both the eateries and the end users. This move positions Rapido as a new, competitive player in India’s crowded food delivery market.
